CAS password: NSDL, CDSL, CAMS and KFintech statements
NSDL and CDSL e-CAS open with the PAN of the first holder in capitals, like ABCDE1234F. A KFintech mutual fund CAS opens with the password you set.

A CAS sent by NSDL or CDSL opens with the PAN of the first or sole demat account holder in capital letters: PAN ABCDE1234F types ABCDE1234F. A mutual fund CAS you request from KFintech is different: it opens with the password you chose on the request form.
CAS is the Consolidated Account Statement. The depositories send one for your demat accounts and mutual fund folios; you can also request a mutual fund CAS yourself. They use different passwords. All examples use one made-up PAN, ABCDE1234F.
Which CAS do you have?
| Statement | Who sends it | Password | Example |
|---|---|---|---|
| e-CAS from NSDL | NSDL, by email | PAN of the first or sole demat holder, in capitals | ABCDE1234F |
| CAS from CDSL | CDSL, by email | PAN of the first or sole demat holder, in capitals | ABCDE1234F |
| Mutual fund CAS you requested | KFintech | The password you set when you asked for it | whatever you typed |
| Mutual fund CAS you requested | CAMS | Not confirmed here; if the form asked you to set one, that one | whatever you typed |
NSDL and CDSL: your PAN in capitals
NSDL says its e-CAS is "a password protected digitally signed PDF file" and that you open it with the PAN of the first or sole demat account holder in capital letters (NSDL). CDSL gives the same answer for its CAS (CDSL).
- Capitals only.
abcde1234ffails; typeABCDE1234F. - The first holder's PAN. Both depositories say "first/sole demat account holder". For a joint demat account, that points to the first holder's PAN.
- Just the PAN. Neither depository mentions anything else, such as the date of birth that income tax PDFs add.
Which depository sends it. If you have demat accounts with both NSDL and CDSL, CDSL says the depository where your demat account was opened earlier sends the CAS (CDSL). The password is the same either way.
When it arrives. Both depositories send a CAS in the month after any month with a transaction in your demat accounts or mutual fund folios, and a CAS with your holdings every six months if there is none (NSDL, CDSL). CDSL adds that if you hold mutual fund units only in demat form, it sends no CAS; your depository participant sends a transaction statement instead.
KFintech and CAMS: the password you set
You can ask CAMS or KFintech for a CAS showing your holdings across mutual funds, as long as your email address is registered with your mutual funds (AMFI). The statement comes by email, and the password is not a fixed format.
KFintech's request form asks you to enter a password twice and says "You will need this password to open the statement" (KFintech). Its rules:
- at least 8 characters
- at least one capital letter, one small letter and one number
- at least one special character, such as
@,#or$
CAMS has a similar request page (CAMS), but it loads only in a browser and we couldn't read its password rules to quote them here. If the form asks you to set a password, that is the one that opens the PDF.
If you have forgotten what you typed, request the statement again with a new password. It is quicker than guessing.
If it still won't open
- Lowercase PAN. Depository CAS needs capitals:
ABCDE1234F. - Wrong holder. Use the first holder's PAN for a joint demat account.
- Wrong kind of CAS. A mutual fund CAS you requested from KFintech doesn't use your PAN; it uses the password you set.
- Get it again. NSDL lets you view the e-CAS it sent in the previous twelve months (NSDL). CDSL lets you download statements it has sent from the CAS section of its website (CDSL).
- Getting it by post instead of email. CDSL says to update your email address with your depository participant (CDSL). NSDL says to switch from physical to email with the "Subscribe to e-CAS" option on its CAS website (NSDL).
Make an unlocked copy
Tax filing software, your accountant or a loan application may need the CAS without a password. Once it opens:
- Open Remove Password and choose the statement.
- Type the password once.
- Download the unlocked copy. The statement is processed in your browser and never uploaded.
Keep the original email too. The unlocked file is a new copy, so NSDL's digital signature on the original doesn't carry over to it; if someone needs to verify the signature, send them the original.
To get the holdings into a spreadsheet, run the unlocked copy through PDF to Excel. Passwords for other documents are in AIS, Form 26AS and Form 16 PDF passwords and bank statement PDF passwords.
Questions people ask
What is the password of the NSDL or CDSL CAS?
The PAN of the first or sole demat account holder, in capital letters. PAN ABCDE1234F opens with ABCDE1234F. NSDL and CDSL both state this in their CAS questions and answers.
Why does my CAS not open with my PAN?
Check two things. The letters must be capitals, and NSDL and CDSL say the PAN is that of the first or sole holder of the demat account. In a joint account, try the first holder's PAN.
What is the password of a mutual fund CAS from KFintech or CAMS?
For KFintech, the one you typed when you requested it. KFintech's request form asks you to choose a password of at least 8 characters with a capital letter, a small letter, a number and a special character, and says you will need it to open the statement. CAMS has a similar request page; if it asks you to set a password, that is the one.
Why did I get my CAS from CDSL and not NSDL?
If you have demat accounts with both depositories, CDSL says the one where your demat account was opened earlier sends the CAS.
How often is the CAS sent?
In the month after any month with a transaction in your demat accounts or mutual fund folios, and every six months with your holdings if there is none.
How do I remove the password from a CAS PDF?
Open Remove Password, choose the statement, type the password once and download an unlocked copy. The file is processed on your device and never uploaded.
