Most Indian banks lock e-statements with something only you know: the first letters of your name with your date of birth, your customer ID, or digits of your mobile or card number. The exact format is usually written in the email that carried the statement, so check that first. The table below collects the formats banks publish, plus the ones reputable guides report, with the source for each.
All examples use one made-up customer: RAHUL KUMAR, born 05-03-1990, mobile 98765 43210, customer ID 12345678, card ending 4321.

Rows sourced to the bank itself are the most reliable. Where the source is a guide such as ClearTax or BankBazaar, the format is widely reported but not published by the bank, so treat it as the first thing to try.
Rules that trip people up
- Account and card statements differ. SBI, HDFC Bank and ICICI Bank use one format for account statements and another for credit cards.
- The name is the one on the statement. Use your name as the bank has it, not as you usually write it.
- Short first names run into the surname. A first name shorter than four letters continues into the next word: ANU THOMAS gives
ANUT, as Federal Bank's own example shows. - Capitals matter. Axis wants capitals, Bank of Baroda small letters. Try both if the bank doesn't say.
- DDMM is day then month. Born on 5 March:
0503, not0305. - Formats change. ICICI's credit card statements used name and date of birth before; its own page now says the last four card digits. Older statements may still need the older format.
When nothing works
- Search your inbox for the email that carried the statement. Most banks state the format in it.
- Download the statement again from net banking or the bank's app. Statements you download yourself sometimes use a different format, or none.
- Ask the bank. No tool can reliably guess a strong password, and DoYourPDF doesn't try.
Unlock it once, then use it
Loan apps, the income tax portal and accountants often can't use a locked file. The income tax department says plainly: do not upload files with password protection (Income Tax Department). Once you know the password:
- Open Remove Password, choose the statement and type the password once.
- Download the unlocked copy. It never leaves your device while this happens.
- Need the transactions in a spreadsheet? Run the unlocked copy through PDF to Excel.

Questions people ask
What is the usual password for a bank statement PDF?
Most Indian banks combine two things you know, such as the first four letters of your name and your date of birth (RAHU0503), your customer ID, or digits of your mobile or card number. The email that carried the statement states the exact format.
Why does my credit card statement need a different password from my account statement?
Banks often use different formats for the two. HDFC Bank, for example, uses your customer ID for account statements but your name and card digits for credit card statements.
Can I remove the password from a bank statement?
Yes, once you know it. Remove Password makes an unlocked copy on your device, without uploading the statement anywhere. Loan apps and the income tax portal often need an unlocked file.
Can DoYourPDF recover a forgotten statement password?
No. It unlocks files you know the password for. If no format works, download the statement again from net banking or ask the bank.
